EXTRA SESSION ADDED TO DISCUSS IMPORTANT NEW OCD DATA THAT COULD CHANGE TREATMENT
We have added a new session to discuss surprising data on OCD. This will take place on FRIDAY 22ND JULY - 9.00-11.15 in LECTURE THEATRE L. Arising from clinical observations, Professor S. Rachman treated a series of severe OCD patients urging them to combine exposure in vivo with the OPPOSITE of response prevention, that is with Safety Behaviours.
The results were so encouraging that an experimental analysis of this phenomenon was conducted in a sample with significant contamination fears. This confirmed the basic finding that response prevention is not necessary for the decline of fear of contamination. An independent replication from the Netherlands confirmed the basic findings.
This session will present these findings followed by an extensive discussion of their implications for the theory and treatment of OCD.
The following Symposia have unfortunately been cancelled:
- Medically Unexplained Symptoms and
- Systematic Motivational Counselling: Assessing and Changing Maladaptive Motivation.
Skills Class 5: Analysing clinical and experimental psychopathology data: Some potential problems and some modern solutions (Andy Field)
Delegates will need to bring a wifi-enabled laptop to this class. Please download the programme R in advance.
R is publicly available on mac and PC for free: http://www.r-project.org/
Behavioural Couples Therapy is a theme of the conference and Professor Don Baucom is giving his first workshop on this topic for the BABCP. Despite being the founder of the field, it is only the second workshop he has ever given in the UK. His first workshop on the topic was extremely well received as it combined his world expertise with a wicked sense of humour and exceptional ability to engage the audience. Other world-leaders in the marital relations field are also coming to the conference so that there will be a full day of behavioural couples therapy which promises to be informative, interesting and very lively.
Your feedback is appreciated and helps us to provide better conferences.
The BABCP 2012 Annual Conference will be held at the University of Leeds.
